Sustainable consumption and production refer to “the use of services and related products, which bring a better quality of life while minimizing the use of natural resources and toxic materials as well as the emissions of waste and pollutants over the life cycle of the services or products so as not to jeopardize the needs of future generations”.
The first crucial step is to identify the “hot spots” within the complete lifecycle of production and consumption phases like resource extraction, production of intermediate inputs, distribution, prevention of greenhouse gas emissions, environment friendly waste disposal using the 3R's and set up interventions at these hot spots to improve the environmental and social impact on the system as a whole.
